This afternoon the Jets waived Patrick Turner and add Linebacker Ricky Sapp on the practice squad. The four year veteran out of USC has struggled to establish himself at all at the professional level. I have seen people saying since this happened that they are surprised the Jets made this move. I am not exactly sure what these people are surprised about. Turner only saw extensive time in the preseason because of the injuries to starters Santonio Holmes, Jeremy Kerley, and backup Chaz Schillens. Kerley and Holmes had impressive games Sunday and even Schillens got his name on the stat sheet. With the performance from second round rookie Stephen Hill the Jets obviously saw Turner as expendable.
The only thing about this that comes as somewhat of a surprise is that the Jets have yet to announce a corresponding move. There is a good chance that if Turner clears waivers he could be back after the week 2 matchup against Pittsburgh.
